June 13th- Freiburg/Black Forest/Titisee

June 13th- Freiburg/Black Forest/Titisee

We woke up this morning pretty early so that we could get going on our
bike ride through the Black Forest!  Woah!  This is so beautiful!  It
was SOOO much fun to go on our bike ride!  Right behind our hotel is
part of the Black Forest, and the hotel rented bikes there at the
front, so all 6 of us (my parents stayed behind and watched Stockton
for us!- SOO nice!) hopped on and headed up the mountain.  It was just
a pretty simple ride on a dirt packed road, and we rode up to the top
of the mountain right there by us, and reached the cutest little
restaurant/bed and breakfast.  There was also a church right by it,
and the persons house who lived there- probably.  It was SOO
beautiful!  Wow!  We went to ride back down and saw a little single
track that was going below the road and really wanted to take it, but
didn't want to get lost.  So we stayed on the road, and Cole and Rocky
took an upper track that was right there by the road- because we
figured that would probably hook back to the road that we were on in
the first place.  It was such a nice ride down through there, and
almost to the bottom, we saw my parents and Stockton coming up the
road!  When we were talking to them, Cole and Rocky popped out right
below us!  So crazy!  So, they rode back up towards us, and we decided
to go back up and ride down the lower single track again because we
had spotted it the whole way down.  I'm so glad that we did!  It was
SOO much fun!  All along the way, there were little work out stations
for people to do if they wanted.  So, we stopped and played a little
bit along the way.  There was one that was a log set up like a
teeter-totter and we were playing and launching each other off, and we
were filming Court and Rock doing it, and just as Rock went to launch
Court up, she slipped off of the log and totally somersaulted
backwards off of the log onto her back!  It was so awesome!  It was
hilarious, but Court totally got hurt.  It was such a bummer!  She
wasn't hurt real bad, but she started crying- which she never does-
and it was so funny.  That sounds bad, but all of us were laughing,
and she was doing a mixture of laughing and crying all at the same
time.  She turned out to be alright, but it was hilarious when it
happened.  No more launching for us!
We made it back down the hill in time for breakfast- which was
delicious!  It's fun to eat at these hotels.  After breakfast, we
packed up and hopped into the car!  We traveled a little while to the
city of Titisee and went on a shopping spree!  The town was so cool
and it is right on the Bodensea.  I think that is how you spell it.
Probably not. :)  It was so beautiful though, and this is where the
Cuckoo clock originated!  So, there were tons of shops with a whole
bunch of cuckoo clocks, and christmas stuff- wood carvings of the
nativity, and the pyramid carousels.  We went crazy!  Cole and I got
another cool Nativity thing, a spinning pyramid carousel, and some
cute ornaments for the kids.  We also got some stuff for Cole's Mother
and sisters for watching our kids.  It was really fun!
As soon as we were done there in Titisee, we hopped back into the car,
and drove for like 5 hours back to Munich to the Mission home.  We
didn't get anything for dinner tonight, because we were in the car for
too dang long ! We got stopped a bit because of traffic, and we also
lost our GPS!  The power cord broke on it, so we had to run it on
batteries for as long as it would run, and it didn't run for too long,
so we were back to the map system.  Thank heavens for GPS!  We got
back to the mission home and frantically started to do laundry and
things like that so that we could be ready to leave early in the
morning!  We are having the greatest time ever!  Seriously...this is
the trip of a LIFETIME!

The Bodensea (?)

Cuckoo-clock capital of the world!!!  Apparently. :)

June 12th- Wengen/Freiburg

June 12th- Wengen/Freiburg

We got up this morning and maybe were thinking that we might be able
to go on another hike, but it was raining too hard.  Nuts.  So, we had
another yummy breakfast at the Hotel Belvedere and packed up and
headed out of there!  We did a little bit of shopping there in the
town of Wengen, got some snacks and such, then headed to the train
station!  We took the fun train back down the mountain to
Lautenbrunner and hit up the grocery store again for lunch!  We just
ate in the car so that we could get on the road and head to Freiburg!
The drive to Freiburg was pretty long, but it was so beautiful!
Everything here is absolutely gorgeous!  I can't get over it!  On our
way to Freiburg, we stopped at the temple in Bern- which is just 20
minutes away from where Cole's Great-Grandpa was born!  SO cool!  Wish
we could have gone there to see it, but what can you do.  His name is
Gustav Freiderich Meyer.  Neat that we were that close!  Anyways...the
temple was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!  We were so sad, because it was
closed for cleaning for the entire 2 weeks that we are here in Europe!
Ah nuts!  But at least we got to see it.  It kind of reminded me a
little bit of the Denver temple- the way that it looked.  There is a
huge forest back behind the temple that is apparently part of church
property and we walked all through it for a minute, and it was so
neat!  Incredible!  The trees are so cool!  They are HUGE around, and
go straight up!  There aren't many branches or stuff on the bottom of
the trees because there isn't much sunlight that reaches them. They
were so neat though.  The Bern church is right there next to the
temple, and it is also surrounded by church housing.  Really neat!
After the temple, we continued on our journey on to Freiburg.
Freiburg was SUCH a neat city!  We walked all over and saw all the
cool quaint little streets that are lined with shops and things.
We've saved quite a bit of money because every night when we get into
the towns, all of the stores are closed so we don't have the chance to
buy anything!  Good plan- I think. :)  But we walked the streets, saw
the COOLEST cathedral- the Muenster.  It was HUGE and the bells were
going off when we got there- because Mass was starting a few minutes
after we got there!  The bells were so amazing.  It was neat to hear
them.  We went into the cathedral and they were just starting the
service.  I've never seen a catholic service, and it was neat to see!
We just watched a few minutes and then left, but it was interesting.
We went to dinner at a yummy restaurant called Paradise- and it was
delicious!  It was pretty fancy, and it was really inexpensive!
Inexpensive compared to Switzerland for SURE!  Whoooeeee!  Everything
in Switzerland cost a pretty penny!  Yikes!  Anyways...dinner was
delicious.  I had my first Weinerschnitzel- and it was pretty good!
Cole had a salmon steak and it was delicious though!  We've eaten SO
much!  And you can tell.  What can you do.  After dinner, we headed to
our hotel- which was called the Mercure.  It was AWESOME!  We each had
our own room, and the rooms were great.  We slept really good.  Fun
day planned for tomorrow- fun day today!

The Muenster.  The bells were SOO cool!

The streets of Freiburg were SOOO beautiful!  These were the gutters all over the city.

And all of the sidewalks were these stone walkways that must have taken FOREVER to place!  They were so neat.  This was in front of the Darla Hotel- I believe.

Also, over each of the streets were trees that were connected between each side growing into each other.  They were so beautiful.

June 11th- Wengen

June 11th- Wengen

What a fun day!  We had such a fun time.  We woke up this morning not
really early, but Stockton woke up at about 7:00 or so, so I was up
taking care of him!  When I woke up, everyone else in our room was
awake!  We are sharing a room with my parents, and the Derricks and
the Mini-Miles are right next to us.  This hotel Belvedere is somethin
else!  It is really fun.  I can't BELIEVE the views from around here!
We woke up this morning and it was really clear and pretty!  So we sat
and checked out the view for a little while, and then the other dudes
woke up, and the clouds rolled in!  We were pretty socked in!  We had
a yummy breakfast here in the hotel and it was good!  Not as good as
the Renaissance, but good. :)  After that, we walked down through town
and got onto the big tram that took us to the top of the mountain!
It's called the Mainnlichen mountain, and we took the Romantikken
trail for our hike.  It was absolutely GORGEOUS!  When we got to the
top, we thought we were going to be in major trouble, because it was
actually SNOWING on us!  It was really quite chilly!  We couldn't see
much in front of us either because we were sitting in a cloud!  But as
soon as we started the hike, and then throughout the entire hike
actually- it alternated between raining and sunny! It was crazy!  One
second we would be hot, then the next we would be freezing, and all
sorts of things!  The hike was about 3 hours or so, and by the end,
before we hopped onto the train to go up the mountain, it was raining
REALLY hard!  Poor little STockton was getting soaked, but he was
actually doing really well!  He slept most of the time, and when he
was awake he was just looking around happy!  So we took the train from
the middle of the mountain down to Grindewald- the coolest little town
ever!  Instead of going somewhere to lunch, we hit up the grocery
store and had bread and cheese and meats and fruit for lunch at the
park!  It was delicious.  As soon as lunch was over, it started to
rain a little bit more, so we packed up and walked the shops.  It was
great!  I found a little long sleeved sweatshirt/sweater thing that
has the Swiss flag on it, and Cole found him some more patches!  He
loves those patches. :)  Walking that little strip was fun!  Lots of
cool souvenir shops.  It was like a glorified Park City street!  SO
cool!  Glorified, except for that it was the real deal!  So that was
fun.  Then we hopped back onto the train, headed back up to the top of
the mountain to see a little more of the view from up there- Keinne
Scheidegg- back to the train that would have taken us to Interlakken-
but we got off at Wengen- home base!  Everyone wanted to shop the
streets a little bit, so we did that for a minute until the stores all
closed!  It's so weird, because it is light here until like 10:00
p.m.!  So when they start closing the stores and it is light outside,
it is a bit trippy!  We came back here to the house after because we
were all pretty cold and very wet from the hike still, so we changed
out of our clothes, hung out for a bit because we weren't all terribly
hungry- then went down to eat around 8p.m.  Poor Stockton is so out of
schedule, and just needs to sleep and lay down, so he was a bit
grumpsters, but dinner was delicious!  As soon as we got to the
restaurant, he started to scream, so I just looked at the menu and saw
the first thing, and it looked delicious, so I got it!  Later to find
out that I picked the MOST EXPENSIVE thing on the menu!  It was $38!
So, Cole just got a salad and we shared the plate.  It was really good
though!  We got a Steak and Roesti- which is shredded potatoes cooked
in LOTS of butter, and on top there was some bacon underneath a fried
egg!  It was so delicious!  Very fattening, but very delicious.  I
have gained quite a bit of weight on this trip- what can you do eh?!
I'll really hit it hard when we get home.  BUt that doesn't change the
fact that I am roly poly now!  Oh well.  Anyways...today was a very
wonderful day.  This is the most beautiful place that I have ever been
to in my life!  I can not BELIEVE the views and things that we are
seeing here!  The Jungfrau mountain wasn't visible to us as we were
hiking because of all of the clouds, but we knew it was there. :)
Just looming out over top of us!  Hooray for Switzerland!

On one of our train rides!  SO FUN!

Right before getting onto the tram

See the tram wires going up into the abyss?

Back to the town of Wengen

Hangin in the snow at the top of the mountain!  Glad it cleared out pretty quickly!

These lift towers were all over the mountain- of course, because it is a working ski resort!- and they were so cool!

Taking a little rest during our almost 6 hour hike!

Having a little respite from the rain at the end of our hike.  It really started comin down!

View from our hotel balcony.  HOLY BANANAS!

The bells on the cows were SO cool!  Cole could NOT BELIEVE we were taking pictures with cows.  :) teeeheee

These little streams were also running around everywhere.

Water troughs for the animals.  They also have some that is good drinking water for people ! We filled our bottles up at one stop and whoooweee!  So delicious!

I LOVE this picture!  Stockton was very enthralled with Grandpa.  It was so cute.

My mom is scared of heights- so it was a big deal for her to be in the tram!  Such a champ.
